They touch our emotions in a myriad of ways while keeping us productively engaged.

They are the quietest escape and source of mindful interaction.
There is literally a book for every kind of person.

Temple of
My Familiar

A story of the dispossessed and displaced of peoples whose history is ancient and whose future is yet to come. Spirituality & meaning of life.

Night
Circus

The circus arrives without warning and is only open at night~ this spell-casting novel is a remarkable battle of imagination.

Light From
Uncommon Stars

An adventure set in Cali’s San Gabriel Valley, with cursed violins, Faustian bargains, and queer alien courtship over fresh-made donuts.

I have challenged myself to read at least two books a month, consistently. I enjoy a wide genre of books, but my go-to will always be fiction because it allows the reader to travel & live through a wide variety of characters, live different lives experiencing multiple realities, and expands the imagination and creativity.

Your Brain on Books

Some studies have shown that the simple act of reading has more weight than ‘what’ you are reading producing an array of social cognitive and psychological benefits. Reading, particularly when it comes to fiction, increases neural pathways, allows us to focus, improve memory and concentration, become more empathetic, builds vocabulary, inspires creativity, reduces stress, and you are more inclined to navigate social and emotional interactions.

Inspired to Read

Once you take the time to slow down, sit down, and cozy up with a novel~ the rest will take care of itself. I am happy to inspire novice and avid readers alike. Check out my virtual reading nook to encourage your reading journey.

Bipoc Authors

If you are interested in reading books by BIPOC authors, here’s an ongoing list that may inspire you to read something new.

Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) are anyone who identifies as Black, Native American, Native Hawaiian, Alaskan Native, Desi, Asian, Pacific Islander, Chicanx or Latinx. The term BIPOC acknowledges that people of color face varying types of discrimination and prejudice. In addition, it emphasizes that systemic racism continues to oppress, invalidate, and deeply affect the lives of Black and Indigenous people in ways other people of color may not necessarily experience. Reading books from diverse authors not only dismantles white supremacy, but also removes negative stereotypes and racialized tropes. By expanding our literary interests to BIPOC authors, we learn of their stories, gain different perspectives, encourage positive recognition, and support those who are underrepresented in the literary world.

LGBTQ+ Authors

People of color in LGBTQ+ communities represent voices of racial identities and gender experiences. Their writings not only  encourage the celebration of identity and the power in embracing authenticity, but also create spaces that promote visibility and advocacy. From novels, to essays and memoirs, these authors speak to those all across the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Queer writers are essential to literature because they validate LGBTQ+ lives, inspire a sense of belonging, connectedness, and self-worth.

Celebrate BIPOC and LGBTQ+ authors in Adult Literature & Non-fiction.

Diversity at your fingertips.

Read my latest blog post highlighting some of my favorite horror novels that include BIPOC and LGBTQ+ representation.
